Croatia’s Davis Cup by BNP Paribas semifinal clash against USA will take place on an outdoor clay court at the Sportski Centar Visnjik in Zadar, the Croatian Tennis Association announced on Friday.
A 7,000-seater outdoor temporary stadium will be erected for the tie next to Zadar’s Kresimir Cosic Sports Hall, which hosted Croatia’s 2016 Davis Cup semifinal clash with France.
Croatia has never lost to USA in Davis Cup and will hope to continue that record when they host Jim Courier’s men for a place in the 2018 Davis Cup Final against either France or Spain.
Croatia has won all four of the previous meetings between the two nations - in 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2016, with Zeljko Krajan´s men completing a thrilling comeback from 0-2 down in their most recent clash in the quarterfinals in Portland two years ago.
USA is looking to reach the Davis Cup Final for the first time since winning the title in 2007, while 2005 champion Croatia is looking to reach the final for the second time in three years and the third time overall.
