Synopsis:

This is an inspiring true story about two thirteen-year-old girls who were, on the eve of World War II, great dancing and acting stars in Zagreb. Selling out theatre venues, they were praised in the most superb headlines by the Croatian and European press. They were filmed by Parisian Pathé and Berlin’s UFA… During the Nazi persecution of Jews and the later German nationals’ flight from communists, a dramatic friendship was born through entertainment, dance, but also anxiety. This led towards an unexpected end.

 

About the director:

Branko Ivanda has been directing feature and TV films, TV dramas, documentaries, theatre plays and writing scripts and essays for over thirty years. A number of his TV films were awarded on eminent international festivals. He has been teaching at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb since 1980 with five-year break from 1985 to 1990, at which time he was teaching at University of California Los Angeles.

Synopsis:

Jorge and Enrique are two artists in the post Spanish Civil War times who adopt an orphan child called Miguel. With a varieté company that travels around the country, Jorge and Enrique see the horrors left by the war. Meanwhile, the Republic Army watches Jorge and the rest of the company, suspecting that some of them collaborate with the rebels opposite to the ruling regime.

 

About the director:

Emilio Aragon was born April 16th, 1959, in Havana, Cuba. Before becoming a film director, Emilio Aragon experienced prolifi c career on television-both in front of and behind the cameras. He is the president of the channel La Sexta and member of the producer company Grupo Globomedia. "Pajaros de Papel" is his feature debut as a director.
