Small Arsenal

The Small Arsenal in Zadar is a protected monument of culture and a part of the Medieval Castle (Kaštel), a separate structure that has been integrated in the defensive system of the city walls. Only some parts have been preserved, among which is the lower part of the entrance tower that was later transformed into a gunpowder warehouse.

Church and Monastery of St Dominic

The Gothic Church of St Dominic in Zadar is located on the west side of the Land Gate, right across the Nassis Palace and the complex of the Proveditor's Palace. In 1396 the first Croatian university started operating as part of the Dominican Monastery.

Palaces

Zadar is a city of palaces. The three-thousand-year-old past of the city is interwoven in its Mediterranean and European urban identity. The face of Zadar is represented by small and bigger squares, narrow streets, ancient churches and monumental memories from the past, as well as luxurious palaces from the Middle Ages and later periods, that are quietly leaning on the remains of Roman and Late-Antique buildings.

Every now and then, strolling along the famous Zadar city walls, which the people of Zadar call Muraj, uncovers some new surprises. New ways of interpreting our city are emerging in a quiet manner. Why is that? Because Zadar has a lot to say.

Sea Organ

Zadar is a proud owner of a unique blend of architecture and music, the world-famous Sea Organ, which is located right next to another modern installation, the Greeting to the Sun. The sounds that the Sea Organ produces are a result of the release of sea energy, or rather waves and tides.

Church and Monastery of St Francis

The Church and the Monastery of St Francis in Zadar, from 1283, is the oldest Dalmatian church built in Gothic style. In 1358 the Zadar Peace Treaty was signed between the Republic of Venice and the Hungarian-Croatian king Louis I in its Sacristy.

Historic District of Varoš

If Kalelarga has been the most important Zadar street and bloodstream of the city since antiquity, the historic district of Varoš is a symbol of a new Zadar. Its narrow streets are imbued with a life atmosphere that radiates comfort and moves slowly through the morning. Scenes of everyday ritual meetings and socializing, endless chit-chat (ćakula) and feasts take place in Varoš. Varoš is an exhibition space of a living city.

Parks

The essence of Zadar lies in its ancient stone face, mottled with green abundance and historical parks. The surroundings enrich the city with natural beauties, its history provided it with landmarks, and its parks demonstrate the city’s urbanity and nobility.

Croatian National Theatre Zadar

The theatrical ensemble of the Croatian National Theatre Zadar was founded 14 years ago, when it started its professional productions together with the Zadar actors. It offers season tickets, as well as on-the-day tickets throughout the year, and is famous for its yearly event, the Zadar Summer Theatre.

Cathedral of St Anastasia

The Cathedral of St Anastasia is a monumental Romanesque building, and it carries the name of the Sirmian martyr, to whom two popes bowed down; Alexander the III, who visited her tomb, and Pope John Paul II, who bowed down in 2003 in front of the main gate of the Cathedral.

Church of St Donat

The Church of St Donat in Zadar has long been desacralized, meaning no liturgies are held here, and from the end of the 19^th century until 1954 it housed the Zadar Archaeological Museum. As St Donat has exceptional acoustic characteristics, it has been the venue for Renaissance music festivals for decades.

Greeting to the Sun

The new symbol of Zadar is located in the Zadar port on the western point of Zadar Peninsula. The Greeting to the Sun is overlooking the Zadar Channel, the islands and the world-famous sunset. With this installation, Zadar has got a new tourist attraction.
