Renowned for her incredibly unique vocal ability, multiple Grammy winner Natalie Cole held a concert in Zadar on 23rd 2010 in front of an audience of 2000 people.
Natalie Cole introduced herself to her Zadar hosts and their guests with a two-hour performance in a unique ambient of the antique Forum. She opened the concert with the well-known seductive rhythm of the cult “Fever” by Peggy Lee. Songs ´Better than anything´, ´When I fall in love´, ´Route 66´, ´L-O-V-E´, ´The very thought of you´, ´Smile´, ´Inseparable´ all lined up in an impressive harmony with the accompanying band and vocals. The renowned composition by Nat King Cole - ´Unforgettable´ took on a whole new meaning with Natalie, who sang emotionally alongside her father while segments from the Cole family idyll were changing on the video screen.
Astonished by the ambient of our city Cole dedicated ´La costa´ to the beauty of the summer, sun and the sea. After the songs ´Mr. Melody´ and ´This will be´, the spectacular show crossed over from wistful, melancholic tone to pure energy. Then followed the charming ´Annie Mae´ and ´Our Love´ as well as Neil Young’s classic ´Old Man´ at the end. The delighted audience prompted the jazz diva to give two encores with their thunderous applause and thus ended the concert that will always remain - ´Unforgettable´!
Apart from the unforgettable concert on the magical Zadar Forum, Natalie Cole will always be remembered as the first world famous celebrity who enjoyed Zadar’s traditional little Friday fiesta and some great shopping. In conversation with her hosts from the Zadar Tourist Board, the music diva expressed her wish to buy clothes made by Croatian designers, so she was referred to the “Marival” boutique where she bought, apart from clothes, unique jewellery made by the young Zadar artist Antonija Gospić. After the memorable concert on the Forum, the diva had dinner at “Tinel” restaurant near the People’s Square and we hope that she remembers Zadar for the legendary Maraschino liqueur that was presented to her by the Zadar Tourist Board as a thoughtful gesture.
