Cathedral of St Anastasia

The Cathedral of St Anastasia is a monumental Romanesque building, and it carries the name of the Sirmian martyr, to whom two popes bowed down; Alexander the III, who visited her tomb, and Pope John Paul II, who bowed down in 2003 in front of the main gate of the Cathedral.

Petar Zoranić Square

The Petar Zoranić Square in Zadar carries the name of the famous Renaissance poet and novelist. You can reach the Square coming from different directions; streets, alleys and squares. Today, the Petar Zoranić Square is a place of gathering, amusement, and the location for the biggest city happenings and events.

Forum

The Forum in Zadar was built by the first Roman Emperor Gaius Julius Caesar Octavian, as witnessed by the stone inscriptions dating back to the 3^rd century, when the construction finished. It was once enclosed by a portico with galleries on the first floor, and under the portico there used to be shops and stalls.

People's Square

Everything that has ever mattered in Zadar, since the Medieval period, happened or was heard of at the People's Square. It is the centre of urban life, a source that sucks you in with its energy and beauty, and then entrusts the passers-by to some other urban sensations.

Historic District of Varoš

If Kalelarga has been the most important Zadar street and bloodstream of the city since antiquity, the historic district of Varoš is a symbol of a new Zadar. Its narrow streets are imbued with a life atmosphere that radiates comfort and moves slowly through the morning. Scenes of everyday ritual meetings and socializing, endless chit-chat (ćakula) and feasts take place in Varoš. Varoš is an exhibition space of a living city.

Church of St Chrysogonus

The Romanesque Church of St Chrysogonus got its name after one of the patron saints of Zadar, and it was consecrated by Zadar bishop Lampridius in 1175. It was built on the site of the Roman emporium and the Church of St Anthony the Hermit from the 6^th century.

Sea Organ

Zadar is a proud owner of a unique blend of architecture and music, the world-famous Sea Organ, which is located right next to another modern installation, the Greeting to the Sun. The sounds that the Sea Organ produces are a result of the release of sea energy, or rather waves and tides.

Parks

The essence of Zadar lies in its ancient stone face, mottled with green abundance and historical parks. The surroundings enrich the city with natural beauties, its history provided it with landmarks, and its parks demonstrate the city’s urbanity and nobility.

Zadar City Walls - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Zadar is one of those European historical cities whose identity is related to the UNESCO World Heritage. Its city walls were impenetrable and they were defending the city from conquerors for centuries, offering a secure shelter for its citizens. Today, the walls make for a beloved promenade for travellers from all over the world.

Arsenal

The Arsenal of Zadar dates back to the 16th century. This large port warehouse was expanded in 1752 under the rule of providur (overseer) Jeronim Marija Balbi, to which the inscription on the plaque on the front of the building testifies.

Small Arsenal

The Small Arsenal in Zadar is a protected monument of culture and a part of the Medieval Castle (Kaštel), a separate structure that has been integrated in the defensive system of the city walls. Only some parts have been preserved, among which is the lower part of the entrance tower that was later transformed into a gunpowder warehouse.

Church and Monastery of St Dominic

The Gothic Church of St Dominic in Zadar is located on the west side of the Land Gate, right across the Nassis Palace and the complex of the Proveditor's Palace. In 1396 the first Croatian university started operating as part of the Dominican Monastery.
